So many great books came out this summer and here is a round up of my favourites.

AFTER PARIS, Nicole Kennedy

Best friends for twenty years, Alice, Nina and Jules return to the city where they met for a much-needed catch up. But they're carrying around more baggage than the Eurostar. This is an excellent, honest and completely compelling story of friendship through the years.

INFAMOUS, Lex Croucher

Regency romance collides with a Gen Z mindset in this absolute treat of a tome. Edith (Eddie) and Rose have been best friends forever but their debut into society changes everything. With Rose engaged and Eddie enthralled by poet du jour Nash Nicholson, Eddie and Rose are forced to navigate what they really want from life during a hedonistic trip to Nash's family pile. So good.

BEFORE I DO, Sophie Cousens

Audrey's getting married to sweet, dependable Josh. Until the night before her wedding when The One That Got Away, Fred, turns up at her rehearsal dinner. Gah! Audrey's in a dither, considering every bad sign from then on an omen that she should not marry Josh after all. Is fate telling her that she should have waited for Fred? This is a lovely, heart-warming romcom.

Thank you to Hodder, Head of Zues and Zaffre for the early copies.

This is Hannahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801366015403154074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3351775572273592905.post-15986049600825594532022-03-11T10:52:00.005+00:002022-03-11T10:52:42.151+00:00THRILLER MINUTE

I often find myself with a hankering for a thriller, specifically something fresh and stylish. I'll take an Agatha Christie for the modern age, please! If you're in the mood for suspense then these two new corkers should do the trick.

THE PARIS APARTMENT, Lucy Foley

I adored The Guest List and Lucy's new release is just as compelling, with plenty of opulent Paris thrown in for good measure. This immersive, atmospheric murder mystery is an absolute must.

Out now.

THE WEDDING NIGHT, Harriet Walker

An incredibly stylish thriller set in the South of France? Yes please. Lizzie's just cancelled her French wedding but she and her closest friends decide to go on the break anyway, only to find the chateau still set up for her nuptials. When Lizzie goes to bed, her friends celebrate the big day without her... and one is hell-bent on tormenting her.

You'll read this way past your bedtime, hungry for more. The definition of a page-turner.

Out now.

Thanks to Harper Collins for the advanced copy of The Paris Apartment.

More reading material...

> New for 2022

> Summer Reads

> Must Read Modern Love Stories
This is Hannahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801366015403154074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3351775572273592905.post-77151871234906342282022-02-02T14:35:00.009+00:002022-02-03T10:30:38.739+00:00NEW FOR 2022

Pre-orders at the ready... these fabulous new books drop in May and are SO worth a read.

ONE NIGHT WITH YOU, Laura Jane Williams

Ruby and Nic are perfect for each other but there's one seismic problem. She's leaving London and he's just arriving. One Night With You is yet another corker from Laura Jane Williams, filled with engaging characters who will come to feel like your real life pals. A dreamy will-they-won't-they.

This one's out in May and available to pre-order now.

TELL ME EVERYTHING, Laura Kay

Well, well, well. This is the first time I've read a Laura Kay and it definitely won't be the last. I fell hard for Tell Me Everything. It's about Natasha, a therapist who does not have her stuff together. She's still living with her ex girlfriend and life is kind of messy. Gah! The book serves up plenty of goodness... romance and relationships sit alongside a smart and brilliantly fast-paced plot.

Also out in May and available to pre-order now.

A big ol' thanks to Avon and Quercus for the early reads.

More of the same...

> Perfect books for your thirties

> The A to Z of Us

> Summer reading list

This is Hannahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801366015403154074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3351775572273592905.post-18832671405594736842021-06-16T11:55:00.004+01:002021-06-16T11:56:55.862+01:00TWO PERFECT BOOKS FOR YOUR THIRTIES

Thirties. That third decade where we feel like we ought to have everything sussed and sorted and yet GAH! Making big decisions, wondering if they're the right decisions... phew, it can be a tricky one.

Thankfully we're all in it together and there are some great books exploring those very themes. Like these two! Happy reading, lovers.

DID YOU MISS ME, Sophia Money-Coutts

It is no secret that I love Sophia, she's fast becoming one of my favourite authors. I just adore the gorgeous warmth of her characters and her sense of unbridled fun. In Did You Miss Me we follow Nell, a successful London lawyer who finds herself pulled back to the family home in Northumberland, where she bumps into her former crush / ruiner of teenage dreams. Will they make amends? Will he question everything she's worked towards? Obviously I'm not going to tell you but this is such a sweet, enchanting book and you really should dive in.

It lands in August and can be pre-ordered now.

COBBLE HILL, Cecily von Ziegesar

Cecily wrote Gossip Girl which is precisely why I picked up Cobble Hill, although it's not a follow-on and there's no more Serena and Blair here. What we do have are four couples living in a smart part of New York, juggling work and families and everything else that often comes with life in your thirties. There are lots of hilarious moments in the book and one of my favourite characters is the British author, desperately trying to write his much anticipated next novel and coming up with some super weird stuff instead. There's also a famous artist who treats life like a living exhibition and announces her arrival back in New York by birthing herself in a dive bar, cocoon and fake blood and all. So, yeah, it's quite nuts and loads of fun and weirdly reassuring, too.

Similar posts...

> Dreamy reads for Summer 2021

> The A to Z of Us by Hannah Doyle

> Two must-read modern love stories
This is Hannahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801366015403154074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3351775572273592905.post-68776221956073150222021-06-11T11:00:00.004+01:002021-06-11T11:00:48.833+01:00PUBLICATION DAY CAPERS

Publication Day is a little bit like taking your newborn baby home, only instead of being preggers you've spent the past nine months writing, editing, writing, editing, writing, editing, writing, editing, writing, editing...

Stop it Hannah.

It can feel a bit like you're trapped in a loop and, now that I've thought of it, I intend for my next book to be some weird sci-fi loop scenario. What will we actually be able to do? Who ruddy knows. One thing I know FOR SURE is that we can crack open a good book and step into a world where people can do Actual Things.

So I've two brilliant new reads for summer 2021 for you, written by two of my favourite authors. Dive in, lads.

BAD CHOICES, Lucy Vine

God I love Lucy. I loved her even before she sent me a proof of her new book along with a stash of chocolate and now that I've read Bad Choices, I can confidently say that it would have won me over even without the Green & Blacks.

It is joyous. All the things I love to read. A perfect portrayal of friendship, with Nat and Zoe stealing my heart from the start. The book follows their friendship through two decades and I loved the nostalgia, laughing hard at the old days, eg my long-forgotten best pal Tom from MySpace. There's light and shade in this book and Lucy deals with the highs and lows so well. Give it a read and chuck five stars her way immediately!

Bad Choices is available to preorder now and comes out on June 10.

THE LUCKY ESCAPE, Laura Jane Williams

Annie has all the ingredients for the perfect honeymoon except, that is, the husband. He literally left her on their wedding day. With a little cajoling she goes on their honeymoon anyway and decides to take a cute blast from the past with her.

This story is adorable. I loved watching Annie learning to put herself first and to take a chance on trusting her instinct. I loved how well LJW crafted her characters. And mostly I loved Patrick. Highly recommend this for a little summer sojourn to Australia from the comfort of your own home.

The Lucky Escape is available to preorder now and comes out on June 10.

Similar posts...

> Two must-read modern love stories

> Three beach reads

> Ghosts by Dolly Alderton

Thank you Avon and Orion for the early reads! I cannot stop! Like a great big rebel I'll stay up past my bedtime and read until my eyes grow heavy.

And oh how I love a modern love story. If you're in the market for sharply observed books about first loves, last loves and everything in between, then these superb stories should float your boat.

EXCITING TIMES, Naoise Dolan

Ava's moved to Hong Kong to teach English and finds herself drawn to the confidence of banker Julian. She quits her poky flat-share and moves into his apartment. They grow to rely on each other so she stays there even when he's away, even though neither of them want a relationship. And then she meets Edith, the beautiful lawyer who makes her question everything.

Exciting Times asks questions about the choices we make, the people we match with and the way we see ourselves. It's excellent. The writing is so neat and succinct that I found myself folding up corners so I could revisit the best bits. A must read from me.

EXPECTATION, Anna Hope

Hannah seems to have it all, but she's been trying for years to have a much-longed-for child. Cate's got a new man and a new baby but she desperately misses her first love. And Lissa, once on the cusp of stardom, is quietly raging against the cards she's been dealt.

In Expectation we follow these three friends as they try to match up the ambition and hope of their teenage years to the reality of adult life. It brilliantly explores friendship, jealousy and the stories that bind us together. I can't tell you how good it is.

More book recs here...

> Lockdown Three Reading List

> September 2020 Watch List

> Summer Beach Reads

> Just My Type
This is Hannahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801366015403154074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3351775572273592905.post-29957069261310150952021-01-19T10:38:00.006+00:002021-01-19T15:24:09.013+00:00WRITER TIPS: HOW TO GET PUBLISHED

Recently I've been struck by how many old friends and former colleagues have been in touch with a very specific question to ask. How did I become a published author? So many of us have a book idea that is just waiting to be written so I thought I'd put together a post to try and help explain the process.

Disclaimer: I am by no means an expert! This is just the info I gleaned when I was starting out. I hope it helps.

1. FIND SOME TIME

First thing's first, you do actually have to write the book and to do that, you'll need time. Write in your lunch break, at weekends, early in the mornings... whatever time suits you best and feels creative. You don't need to go on a super fancy writing retreat like lots of big name authors do, just find some space in your week to focus on getting that idea out.

2. READ READ READ

It really, really helps to read lots of books within your genre. You'll be absorbing tricks of the trade without even realising it.

3. PLOT IT OUT

All writers differ on this one. Some like to plot the heck out of their story before they write a single word. If you've seen I May Destroy You, I'm thinking of Arabella's entire-bedroom-covered-in-post-its level of plotting. And some prefer to get writing and see where the words take them. Personally, I fall somewhere in the middle. I spend some time writing a synopsis and getting to know my characters, but I'm also incredibly impatient so usually get writing pretty quickly, too. For me, that's when everything comes together.

4. WRITE THE BOOK

Tap away on that keyboard! Writing your first ever book is a bonkers experience. You wonder if you're doing it "right" and sometimes even why you're doing it all. The good news is that you're doing it because you want to and there's no real right or wrong way of drafting your first manuscript, it's just about giving it a go and seeing how it makes you feel.

5. DOUBLE CHECK

Finished your manuscript? You are amazing! Before we get to submissions, do a proof read and if you have friends who read within the same genre, it's a good idea to ask them to read it too. It always helps to have a second pair of eyes on your book before you send it out into the big wide world.

6. FIND AN AGENT

Now comes the biggie! Finding a literary agent who will represent you and your book is huge step in the publishing process and for that, you need a hit list (the good kind). Having scanned the internet for advice, I put together a top five list of agents who I found by skipping to the Acknowledgements section of my favourite books and noting down who the author had credited as their agent. The Writers' and Artists' Yearbook website is also a really useful resource for writers and will tell you which agents are open to submissions in your genre. Once you have your list, go to each agent's website to check their submission guidelines (which can differ) and make sure that they are currently accepting submissions.

7. GET YOUR PITCH READY

Got your top five? You'll need to send each agent the first three chapters, or first 10k, or whatever they request in their guidelines, plus a synopsis of the whole story, as well as a cover letter explaining why you'd love for them to represent you and why you think you'd make a good fit. Phew! Ready to go? Press send on that email!

8. BE PATIENT.

9. BE REALLY PATIENT.

10. ARE YOU STILL BEING PATIENT?

It can take months and months and then some more months to hear back on your submission.

11. PREPARE FOR REJECTION

It's a tough old business and you will get a rejection letter or two or more. Don't be disheartened. I was incredibly lucky to find representation from my top five but do not worry if none of yours take the bait. Go back to point six and hunt for some more, and pitch some more.

12. GOT AN AGENT?

Congratulations! Agents are brilliant superstars who will champion you and your books as well as securing you the best possible publishing deals, too. Not got an agent? Don't panic. There are lots of options. You might have had some feedback from the agents who couldn't take you on and that's invaluable. Take any advice on board! You can pay to have your manuscript professionally assessed by someone in the industry. You can look into self-publishing. You can do this.

Good luck and happy writing.

SIMILAR POSTS

> My writing routine

This is Hannahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801366015403154074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3351775572273592905.post-3240753686093318842021-01-13T11:42:00.002+00:002021-01-13T11:42:25.290+00:00THREE POINT ZERO READING LIST

THREE POINT UH OH. This is dragging along, isn't it? Now doesn't feel like the right time to offer up things to be grateful for, or hopeful platitudes about everything being alright in the end, because frankly we're all just a bit fed up.

What I can offer are Good Things To Read. Or more specifically One Good Thing To Read. This one deserves a post of it's own.

GHOSTS, Dolly Alderton.

We've heard her on the High Low, read her in Style mag and now she's served up her fiction debut. To me the discovery that Ghosts is an absolute triumph was an utterly unsurprising one. Dolly sees into the soul of... all women ever, I think?

The story follows Nina, newly 32 and about to embark on the weirdest year of her life. She's watching time go by like sand through her fingers. Her perfect match can't hack a relationship and vanishes. Her dad's suffering from dementia. Her oldest mates are getting married, having babies and making Nina question if they'd still be friends if they met now.

It's compelling and so well observed that you'll laugh and wince your way through it. I don't think I've ever heard the knicker game, a hen do staple, so perfectly described... "A ceremony of heteronormativity; a coronation of sovereign naff-ness; a whooping, winking ritual of humiliation lacking irony, decency and taste."

Dolly will get you through the pandemic.

More book recs here pals!

> Three Great Books For Life in Lockdown

> October 2020 Reading List

> A Stormy Sunday Reading List

This is Hannahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801366015403154074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3351775572273592905.post-84059084625845892902020-10-16T12:08:00.003+01:002020-10-16T12:08:45.280+01:00OCTOBER READING LISTLike one long groundhog day, this year seems to have whizzed by and staggered along in equal measure. It's the middle of October and my main achievements for 2020 are, um... oh. Wait! I'm writing book three. That's an achievement! And I'm still standing, so there's that too. How are you doing?

It may not have been a year for nailing achievements but the main thing is that we're looking after ourselves as best we can, right? For me that involves pulling on some super soft joggers and reading a lot of books. These are my October faves...

THE WISH LIST, Sophia Money-Coutts

Sophia is excellent at writing gorgeous, funny characters you quite want to be friends with so I was really keen to meet her latest protagonist, Florence, in The Wish List. Eternally single, Florence is shoehorned into visiting a love coach by her step mum where she writes a wish list describing her perfect man. A couple of days later, along comes Rory... but is he actually perfect? I'll leave it to you to find out, because you really must. I think this is Sophia's best book yet.

Available here.

THE SHELF, Helly Acton

Amy probably should get married and have babies soon so the idiot she's dating will have to do... Until he dumps her on live TV and enters her into a reality show called The Shelf. Think Big Brother but for newly single women who will spend the next four weeks learning how to be better at dating. LOL. This is fresh, feminist fiction at its best, I loved the concept and how deftly Helly explores her characters.

Available here.

THE TRUANTS, Kate Weinberg

I stayed up way too late devouring this, the literary love child of Agatha Christie and Sally Rooney. Jess heads off to university to find herself but ends up falling into dangerous relationships in this gripping mystery.

Available here.

Need more book recs?

> Three perfect reads for Autumn

> Just My Type

> Three great books for life in lockdown

This is Hannahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801366015403154074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3351775572273592905.post-1035472495513499322020-09-16T15:05:00.003+01:002020-09-16T17:45:09.677+01:00LITTLE WINS
Every morning I whizz myself up a spinach smoothie while my kids have breakfast and recently they asked to try it so I poured some into cups, fully expecting them to get thrown all over the walls in disgust. It turns out they liked it. What I'm saying here lads is that my kids have spinach for breakfast.

I know.

Before you run for the hills, let me just take this opportunity to explain that the rest of their diet (and mine) is mostly cheese- and carbohydrate-based. So seeing them drink a little shot of goodness each morning gives me such a boost and I've realised that it is the little wins like this which keep me going, even if the rest of the day is one giant cheese-eating, toddler-wrestling dystopia.

Let's face it, we could all do with making the most of our little wins right now. It's time to get cosy. CHOCS AHOY!

For me, there's nothing better than curling up after a long and busy day to the sound of rain tapping on the windows, the smell of a scented candle wafting through the room and the promise of an uninterrupted hour of TV.

There are some absolute CRACKERS on at the moment! Here's what I've been watching...

MRS AMERICA

You'll love to hate Cate Blanchett, who is sheer perfection as anti-hero Phyllis Schlafly in this series on the feminist wars of 1970s America, when women in pearls and twinsets mobilised fellow housewives to fight against the women's liberation movement. Rose Byrne and Uzo Aduba play feminist icons Gloria Steinem and Shirley Chisholm brilliantly. A fascinating watch.

On BBC iPlayer

HARLOTS

This Georgian bonk buster about warring brothel-owners in London is an absolute ROMP! Starry cast (Samantha Morton, Jessica Brown Findlay and apparently a cameo from Liv Tyler to come), a dive into the rich and the poor of 18th century London and finely tuned characters to boot. A must.

On BBC iPlayer

THE OTHER ONE

We've instigated Comedy Wednesdays in my house which is a very jolly way to celebrate the midweek mark. I was super miffed when Young Offenders finished but not to worry, The Other One is now a firm favourite. Premise: Catherine (Cathy) discovers her dad had a secret second family after he dies and her half-sister is also called Catherine (Cat). Cathy's played by Ellie White aka Princess Beatrice in The Windsors and Cat is the excellent Lauren Socha. It's all about a clash of the classes and, like Young Offenders, offers really tender moments among the laughs.

On BBC iPlayer

CHERNOBYL

I sobbed uncontrollably at the end of this, which may or may not be a recommendation for you. It's devastatingly sad and bloody bleak. It's also a really important watch because while we all know what happened in 1980s USSR this show brings it right back to the fore and more.

On Sky.
This is Hannahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801366015403154074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3351775572273592905.post-55599976925188508192020-07-22T16:02:00.001+01:002020-07-22T16:02:35.527+01:00BEACH READS FOR SUMMER 2020

Waves crashing gently against the shore.

SHOCK HORROR LADS! Recent stats prove we're all reading a lot more at the moment. My Kindle has certainly become my one true lockdown love, along with wine and a new-found conviction that I'm going to be great at upcycling. (Unlikely).

So, these three smashers are the best of my lockdown reads BY FAR and I highly recommend them all. I'd love to hear yours too.

IF I NEVER MET YOU, Mhairi McFarlane
Whip smart and super funny, this is an absolute gem of a book. Laurie embarks on a fauxmance with the office dish to make her ex jealous and all sorts of shenanigans ensue.
Available here.

ADULTS, Emma Jane Unsworth
Jenny's a mess but at least her Instagram is perfect. This is beautiful, tender and honest, an absolute must-read.
Available here.

THE GUEST LIST, Lucy Foley
I mean, what's not to love about a murder in the midst of an impossibly glamorous wedding in Ireland? I loved the split narrative and found it genuinely difficult to put down.
Available here.

How has your 2019 been, lover? I have spent a lot of time cleaning dog poo out of toddler wellies, so there's that 😬. One lady I know, however, has had a million more adventures!

Interiors designer Marit, from Norway, was so inspired when she read the Norwegian edition of my book The Year of Saying Yes that she's spent the past year following in Izzy's footsteps! "My life is full of everyday duties. I needed some more adventure and excitement in my life and was up for some challenges," she tells me.

So she wrote to Kamille, a glossy Norwegian mag, and pitched the idea. If you haven't read The Year of Saying Yes, journalist Izzy spends her New Year's Eve spectacularly failing at life and trundles back to London the next day feeling super miffed. She writes a list of boring New Year's resolutions and suddenly everyone at her magazine's first editorial meeting is talking about how they, too, have vowed to say no to things. But surely a new year should be all about saying yes to fresh adventure, rather than no to muffins? Suddenly the editor asks her to try 12 new things in 12 months and so begins Izzy's journey of a lifetime.

Back to Norway, and Kamille magazine loved the idea of Marit doing something similar for them. She adds: "I was so ready to step out of my ordinary life from time to time and try something new."

Just like Izzy, Marit has spent the past year stepping out of her comfort zone with challenges like...

Slam poetry (in which she wrote and performed a deeply personal poem for her father), going vegan, caring for a poorly little girl, visiting a recycling plant, nude bathing (which made her giggle), volunteering at a soup kitchen, giving a lecture to 200 women and so much more.

Throughout 2019 Marit has kept me updated on her progress and I have absolutely LOVED hearing all about her adventures.

She says: "You don't know what might happen when you get out of your comfort zone. Maybe you'll meet new people who will mean a lot to you, or learn something new that leads you in a new direction in life, or maybe you'll grow in confidence because you dared to try something new. You never know until you try!"

I'm bowled over by these words and wanted to say a HUGE thank you to Marit for being so brave, and for dedicating an entire year to this challenge. I'm so in awe of all the things you have done!

Thanks also to Kamille magazine for loving the idea and everyone in Norway who has read the book. Tusen takk! And I hope your 2020 is just as exciting.
Want more fabulous female friendships? More travel? More romance? Less romance? Tell me and I shall deliver.
Also, reviews make our publishers happy, which is a bit like presenting your child's teacher with a prosecco at the end of the year. Never a bad thing.

HELLO! This never-ever-ending rain is fun, isn't it? I've been hibernating with all the books and thought I'd share my latest favourites with you. If you like the sound of them then you too could... treat yo-shelf.

Shall we move swiftly on from that, the world's worst pun? Let's.

American Royals, Katharine McGee
Juicy, absorbing and fast-paced. American Royals is set in an alternate America which has a monarchy, and tracks the lives of Princess Beatrice - destined to be the country's first female monarch - and her twin siblings Samantha and Jefferson. Poor old Bea falls in love with a "commoner" right when she's meant to be picking an aristocratic husband, Sam's acting out because she feels eclipsed by her big sister and Jeff's being stalked by the world's most terrifying ex-girlfriend. The book is a delicious mix of swirling teenage hormones and the gilded lives of the ultra rich... like The OC hooked up with The Crown.

The School Run, Helen Whitaker
Since becoming a mum I often wonder if I have also become 100 per cent batshit. (Spoiler alert: I have.) I've started inhaling anything to do with motherhood and my current obsession is the bang accurate and hilarious Motherland. So when I heard about The School Run I had to dive in and I'm so glad I did. It's a tale of mums literally competing to get their kids into an over-subscribed London primary and is incredibly fun, ultra relatable and blissfully reassuring in equal measures. I really recommend this to any parents, though maybe not when you're trying to figure out which school you'd like your own kids to go to because HI THERE nightmares.

It Happened on Christmas Eve, Kirsty Greenwood
I'm two mulled wines away from wearing my Christmas jumper in November and it's Kirsty Greenwood's fault. I follow Kirsty on Instagram and when I saw her new novella was out and I had to buy it immediately, even though I usually wait until December to get festive. I'm so glad I did though, because It Happened on Christmas Eve is an absolute delight. Phoebe hates Christmas and yet Phoebe is forced to hang out with Christmas-enthusiast Adam on Christmas Eve. Much hilarity ensues. You'll devour this like a mince pie.

On the hunt for some school photos for a friend's hen do recently, I uncovered a couple of old diaries in the process and OH how they made me laugh. It was an absolute joy to be transported back to teenage life!

Here are some life lessons 17-year-old Hannah has brought to my attention...

💘 All hail the MAC counter. "An AMAZING week" consisted of buying make-up and drawing pictures how said make-up would get on my face before nights out with my best ones.

💘 It's all about priorities. Panicking about getting good A Levels would be swiftly eclipsed by crushing on 1000 boys.

💘 Thank you, NEXT. Three full diary pages may be devoted to one beautiful young buck, but if he didn't say hi to me at The Bus Stop then it was buh-bye, boy.

💘 Bacardi Breezers were once incredibly chic. "Breezer" for short, kids.

💘 Some things never change. Here's a direct quote from a night when I had no plans aged 17: "I played some music really loud, then started to watch Poirot but I couldn't concentrate so went to bed at 9:45 to read a magazine." DECEASED. I still do this now.

💘 Jeans and a nice top will never grow old.

💘 What is it about older brothers? My best friends and I all fancied each others'. As an only child, this meant I was one of the few to escape unscathed from this torment.

💘 Self care looked a little different back then. There was nothing a little 5ive on the actual stereo couldn't fix.

Have you read your old diary lately? I'd love to hear your youthful gems, too! This is Hannahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801366015403154074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3351775572273592905.post-31185980439998000472019-07-30T07:45:00.000+01:002019-07-30T07:45:48.864+01:00THREE BRILLIANT BOOKS ABOUT FRIENDSHIP

MATES. Where would we be without our best mates? It's World Friendship Day and though official days for stuff are obviously ridiculous, I'm never not on board with an extra reason to celebrate the wonderful women in our lives.

These babes, pictured above, are the sisters I got to choose. They are the cheese on my taco and the jam in my doughnut.* I love them so thoroughly that even the many miles between us can't dampen my ardour.

Friendship's a powerful thing, isn't it? And there are some fabulous books celebrating exactly that, so I've rounded up some of my favourites. Check out these little gems...

OUR STOP, Laura Jane Williams
Well this was GREAT. It's the story of Nadia and Daniel and their missed connections on a shared tube journey. Some seriously savvy writing makes this a gripping will-they-won't-they (half way through the book I was almost shouting at the two leads to just bloody stay put and wait for the other one to show!). But it's also a glorious representation of camaraderie, with Nadia navigating her friendships at the same time as her love life.
Available here.

CATCH ME IF YOU CANNES, Lisa Dickenson
Jess needs a break from LYF so when best friend Bryony offers her the chance to join her at Cannes Film Festival, she's all in. There's plenty going on in the book, what with romance and a dazzling holiday of a lifetime, but the main thing I took away was Bryony and Jess's glorious friendship. They help each other through tough times, egg each other on through fun times and eat all the French crisps in the process. Such a warm read.

JUST MY TYPE, Hannah Doyle
Never not promoting the heck out of myself, I had to include Just My Type in this round-up. The book revolves around a huge dating adventure for Jasmine, who needs to stop going out with douches, and fast. She goes on seven different dates in seven different cities, but it's best pal Mila who gives her the kick up the arse she needs. I hope you enjoy their scenes together!
Available here.

Recently my sons have been "getting into cooking". At two point five, this involves brandishing spatulas and creating Heston-style culinary masterpieces in their mini kitchen. "IT'S A SAUSAGE PANCAKE."

So this new cookbook from the couple behind blog Green Kitchen Stories, designed specifically to get children involved in the kitchen, arrived right on time and I was instantly impressed with Luise and David's honesty.

As parents of three, they get that there will be days when your children have a meltdown because you haven't dished up the exact type of meal they were hoping for. There's no pretending that the book will solve all your toddler kitchen nightmares, but they do suggest lots of ways to make cooking fun for everyone through wholesome, veg-focused meals. Already I've noticed that getting the little ones involved means they are more engaged with what ends up on their plates.

We hit the kitchen.

First up, Halloumi Souvlaki Pitta Pockets. This involved marinading halloumi in a whole heap of delicious herbs, and while they baked in the oven, my husband made the tzatziki, which will forever be our go-to tzatziki recipe from now on. Seriously, it was DELICIOUS. I ate spoons of it long after the halloumi and pittas had been devoured and my twins dipped cucumber sticks into leftovers the next day.

Next, the Smash and Tear Summer Pasta which used up a box of fresh, mixed tomatoes. As the name suggests, get your little ones to mash up the tomatoes with their tiny fists before adding in capers, basil, garlic and olive oil. Cook up some pasta and combine! This was so simple, so fresh and a nice healthy variation on my go-to pesto pasta.

Next on my agenda are the Energy Bean Bars and these ridiculously cute Animal Grain Cakes...

All told, a really lovely recipe book packed with fun ideas for eating as a family.
My second book publishes today and I cannot wait for you guys to read it.

It's the story of Jasmine, who is in a major dating funk. She has a very specific type on paper and she's sticking to it like glue. But when Jasmine gets dumped, on the London Eye, in the middle of a thunderstorm, by a boy who was "just her type", best friend Mila decides to step in. Jasmine needs a fresh start and fast. So Mila draws up a whole new type on paper for Jasmine. No more tall, dark and handsome. Buh-bye, boys in suits. And categorically no more dating douches.

Jasmine's reluctant to say the least, but soon she finds herself on the journey of a lifetime. Seven different dates in seven different cities, say what! But will her shake-up get her what she wants?

Grab yourself a hot cup of tea, a chocolate or three and I'll leave you to find out more. I hope you enjoy it.

It's a bit drizzly. There's a least one cloud in the sky and it looks a smidge menacing. Maybe it's even totally glorious outside but hey, a Sunday spent wrapped up in a good book is my kind of Sunday.

These three are my latest favourites and now that I've written them down, I realise that this post called also be called THREE BOOKS THAT BEGIN WITH 'THE', though that's maybe not so catchy?

THE PLUS ONE, Sophia Money-Coutts
This is the story of Polly, who writes for Posh! magazine and bags herself an unlikely love interest in the shape of playboy aristocrat Jasper. Thoroughly delicious and a little bit oh la la to boot... I loved it and cannot wait for Sophia's second book, which lands this summer.
Available here.

THE WIVES, Lauren Weisberger
Emily from The Devil Wears Prada is back again, only her dazzling career is being threatened by a new kid on the block. So she sets off on a mission to save a high-profile friend-in-need, and herself in the process. Fast-paced and kick-ass.
Available here.

THE SEVEN DEATHS OF EVELYN HARDCASTLE, Stuart Turton
A definite change of pace to the first two, this is a murder mystery with a gripping twist. I found it so unsettling at first that I couldn't read it before bed (I'm so cool) but it wasn't long before I was all in, bedtime jitters be damned.
Available here. This is Hannahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801366015403154074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3351775572273592905.post-7628507086221418572018-09-14T10:51:00.001+01:002018-09-14T10:51:45.665+01:00THREE PERFECT READS FOR AUTUMNWell blow me down, it's getting autumnal already! After a gorgeously sun-kissed summer, is anyone else quite keen to dust off their jumpers, chuck a throw or two over the sofa and get cosy? Shall we unravel our scarves together?

As well as all the soft furnishings, now feels like the right time for some autumnal literature. The kind of book that conjures up images of golden leaves and hot chocolate, or just makes you want to curl up with a coffee and read read read. Here are my favourite books so far...

MY SISTERS AND ME, Lisa Dickenson
I already had ginormous love for Lisa because she writes such brilliant books and gave my first novel her seal of approval like an absolute legend. Then she came up with My Sisters and Me and now I actually love her a bit, which is definitely an appropriate way to feel about someone you still haven't met, right guys? Guys?!
My Sisters and Me is a dream of a cosy read. It's set in Devon just as the leaves are starting to scatter underfoot and it's jam-packed with hilarious references to the nineties. Being reminded about moments / memories from your past is like getting a jolly big hug from an old friend. (I defy you to read this and not go on the hunt for nineties memorabilia in your own family home.) Plus it's all about sisterhood and will make you spectacularly grateful for all those badass women in your life. Available here.

IN PARIS WITH YOU, Clementine Beauvais
Oh. My. This is actually incredible. The most glorious, poignant, deeply sad love story set around a chance encounter in Paris between two people who, once upon a time, had been in the middle of a teenage crush. The book is a gradual unravelling of the past and I just loved how it's written like a giant poem. (Absolute kudos to the genius who managed to translate this from the original French into English while keeping all of that rhythmic pace.) This is really lovely and quite sad and if I was in the market for giving out stars, it would get ten out of five. Available here.

THE MAN WHO DIDN'T CALL, Rosie Walsh
If I could write with the unparalleled excellence of Rosie Walsh, I would be one happy lady. She has a talent for plonking you right in on the scene and I felt like I was roaming around the countryside with sheep and vaguely sexy love interests from the moment I started reading this. The book is gripping and heart-wrenching in equal measures... you'll storm through it. Available here.
